    AVON, Ind. - Sophomore Julie Pouliquen has positioned herself for another tournament championship, especially if she plays round two the way she finished the first round.

    Pouliquen is tied for first overall after carding a 78 in round one of the Butler Spring Invitational. She is six over par after battling back from a 40 on the front nine to card a 38 on the back.

    Two Flyers are tied for sixth overall as Clara Ang and Katie Dempsey each shot an 82 in round one. Both shot a 40 on the front nine and a 42 on the back.

    Junior Paige Smith added an 85 to tie for 16th after day one. She had a 41 in the first nine holes of play, but a 44 on the back nine. Junior Katie Gallagher had scores of 42 and 45 to finish the scoring with an 87.

    In just their second event of the spring season, the Flyers placed in second after the first day with a team score of 327. UD is just three strokes behind the team lead, which is held by Evansville.

    Dayton will play in the second round on Tuesday, March 24 from the Prestwick Country Club.
