INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - It was a promising start for the Dayton Flyers as UD won three of five events against the Drake Bulldogs in a dual meet.

On a 1750 meter course held at Eagle Creek in Indianapolis, the Flyers bounced back from losing the Varsity Four race to take the next three heats.

"This was a great showing for us, and I look forward to seeing what improvements we can make over the next few weeks," head coach Derek Copeland said. "The girls have worked very hard over the last few months and I am glad that they were able to see that it is paying off."

The Novice 8 picked up the first victory rowing with a time of 6:04.43 and edging out the Drake boat by 10 seconds.

The Varsity 8 then continued UD's momentum crushing the Drake team by 22 seconds. The Flyers completed the heat with a time of 6:03.42.

In fact, Dayton's Second Varsity 8 were ahead of Drake until the last 400 meters and finished just four seconds behind in the same heat.

In the next race Dayton's Novice 4 tallied the third win defeating Drake 7:24.49 to 7:40.80. The final race of the day was another Novice 4 race with both Flyer teams dropping the heat.

Up next for the Flyers is a trip out east. Dayton travels to Philadelphia to compete in the Murphy Cup on Saturday, March 28.
