FIVE FLYER BOATS FINISH STRONG AT THE MURPHY CUP

PHILADELPHIA - With five boats competing in the prestigious Murphy Cup, the Dayton Flyers had a couple of strong showings against a tough field. In the Varsity 8 final, UD placed in fourth after finishing with a time of 7:01.00. The group that led the Flyers to the final included Lydia Caldwell, Grace Doepker, Cydne Mason, Anna Heink, Allison Gates, Ashley Kairit, Kacy Carmichael, Clare Hubbard and Kate Athmer. To qualify for the final Dayton's Varsity 8 finished their opening heat in third thanks to a time of 6:52.97, just 11.93 seconds off of the lead. In the Novice 8, UD clocked in the semifinals with a time of 7:22.64 and finished fourth. Jeanna Heink, Brooke Horan, Allyson Holsinger, Jessica Wolanin, Rachel Thrun, Allison Weis, Allison Walden, Liz Whitman and Caitlin Tencate led the Flyers. In the first race of the event, UD's Novice 8 B team completed their heat in fourth after racing with a mark of 7:40.55. Dayton's A boat had a slightly better placement finishing in third with a 7:16.16 time. On Sunday the Flyers will be involved in a three-team race against Saint Joseph's and Connecticut. Last year UConn narrowly edged out Dayton of the petite finals at the Dad Vail Regatta. The three-team race will also take place at the Schuylkill River. |
