DAYTON, Ohio - Senior Niki Reed made six saves to record her sixth shutout of the season as the Dayton Flyers picked up a 2-0 win over the Massachusetts Minutewomen. Sophomore Mandi Bäck and senior Jen Leslie each recorded goals as the Flyers improved to 9-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the Atlantic 10. At the 7:59 mark in the first half, Bäck got UD on the board by capitalizing off a deflected shot from sophomore Colleen Gibson to earn her ninth goal of the season. Then with 28 seconds left in the first half, Leslie capitalized on a side volley from 10-yards out off another rebound for her second goal of the year to put the Flyers ahead 2-0. That would be enough for Reed who made two saves in the first half and four in the second. In the second half, the veteran goalkeeper made two spectacular saves, one through traffic minutes into the frame and another stop off a breakaway with 18:11 remaining in regulation. The Flyers controlled play throughout holding a 32-9 advantage in shots and a 13-4 edge in corner kicks. The 32 shots were a season-high for the UD. Reed improved to 9-3-0 on the season and earned her 12th career shutout which moves her into fourth on the all-time list. Dayton returns to action Sunday, Oct. 7 with a clash against the Rhode Island Rams beginning at 1 p.m. ET. The game can be followed with Gametracker at www.DaytonFlyers.com. |
