FLYERS OVERCOME EARLY GOAL TO TOP LA SALLE 2-1

Mandi Bäck's game-winner was her fifth of the season

Final Stats

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Dayton women's soccer team rallied from a goal down to defeat La Salle 2-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference play on a rainy Friday at McCarthy Stadium in Philadelphia, PA. With the win, the Flyers move to 12-4-2 overall (6-2-2 A-10) on the year.

If injuries and weather weren't enough to attempt a spoil at the Flyers regular season end, an early 1-0 deficit against the Explorers added to UD's problems. But the Flyers, a team that has overcome adversity over and over again this year, pushed aside their woes and gained three key points in the conference standings.

La Salle opened the scoring early in the first half when forward Kristin Hextall sent a shot from just inside the 18-yard box to the upper right corner of the goal just nine minutes in. The strike was Hextall's 12th of the season, which tied her with Mandi Bäck for the A-10 lead.

Bäck would claim her lead back just six minutes later when she dribbled through the La Salle defense and buried one past Explorer goalkeeper Melissa Sanger for her A-10 leading 13th goal of the season to tie the game at one apiece.

In the 64th minute, Bäck would be the hero for the fifth time this season. Sophomore Emily Miller -- making her season debut -- threaded a pass to an open Bäck who bent in the ball with the outside of her foot from 10-yards out for the eventual game-winner.

Senior goalkeeper Niki Reed posted nine saves for the Flyers en route to her 12th victory of the season.

The Flyers wrap up regular season play on Sunday in the Bronx as they face Fordham at 12:00 p.m. ET.
