Box Score

KINGSTON, RI - The Flyers edged out the Rhode Island Rams 7-5 in extra innings on Friday at URI Softball Field in Kingston, Rhode Island. With the win the Flyers are now 19-23 this season and 6-7 in the Atlantic 10.

Mollie Schrank was 3-of-4 at the plate driving in two runners and adding one of her own. With her totals today Schrank has smacked a base hit in nine of her last 10 games and has added three sacrifices during that time.

Erin Lafayette set a season-best striking out 9 batters in the game. In addition, she held the Rams hitless through 3.1 innings and scoreless through four. LaFayette walked 1 and only allowed 5 runs.

Eva Rappe closed the game for UD pitching two innings and striking out two batters.

The Flyers opened up the scoring early in Kingston driving in two runs on a base hit by Anne Maci in the first inning. Dayton continued the onslaught in the second inning adding two more runs on Schrank's single to right field.

In the fifth inning the Flyers added one more to their score driving home Laura Matthews on Megan Lee's double to left centerfield.

After pitching four scoreless innings the Rams finally struck back adding three runs on a double by Darci Borden.

Rhody pawed their way back into the game in the bottom of the seventh on a single to left field to score one run. The Rams repeated the effort again when Shelly Petersen singled again to score the game tying run.

In the end, however, the Flyers finished what they started with Emily Stegeman up to bat in the top of the ninth. Stegeman batted in Matthews for the game winning run and Maci scored on a throwing error by Rhode Island to give Dayton a two run lead heading into the bottom half of the ninth.

Rappe sealed the deal for Dayton icing the bats of the Rams setting them down in order and striking out the final two batters.
