Green Castle, IN - The University of Dayton women's track team finished first overall at the Tiger Indoor Invitational hosted by DePauw University on Friday night. The Flyers cruised to a team score of 265.5 points en route to their second team victory of the season. UD won 11 events total at the competition and took the meet by 183.5 points. Dayton started the meet with a victory in 4x200 Meter Relay in a time of 1:48.16. Andrea Cornell then posted a season best time of 8.57 in the 55 meter hurdles, the junior was followed by sophomores Chantee Mathews (8.60) and Emma Steinmetz (8.86). Both times were season bests as Mathews finished second overall and Steinmetz placed fourth. Sophomore Brittany Thomas took the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.36. In the mile run, sophomore Angela Conlon finished fourth (5:24.13). Junior Stacy Chew recorded a personal best time (59.62) in winning the 400 meter dash. Chew was the only runner to finish the event with a time under one minute. Sophomores Kate Tejkl (1:02.91) and Sarah Howley (1:03.32) placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Second year runners Lauren McCormick (26.10) and Brittany Thomas (26.30) teamed up to finish first and second in the 200 meter dash. Both times were season bests for the sophomores. In the 3,000 meter run, sophomore Kristin Terry (11:07.14), senior Emily Deet (11:10.54) and junior Sydney Hubbard (11:15.44) finished third, fourth and fifth overall for the Flyers. The Dayton 'A' team posted a season best time of 3:58.77 in the 4x400 relay. More highlights were found in the weight throw competition, where UD placed three competitors in the top four. Freshman Mallory Barnes took the event and set a school record with a toss of 56-10.00. Sophomore Molly McCarty finished second (52-05.5), while another rookie, Kerry Allen, set a personal record hurling 48-06.75. In the long jump, sophomore Andrea Funk took first with a personal record leap of 17-06. She was followed by McCormick, who set a personal best as well at 17-02.75. Freshman Briona Gresham finished fourth overall (15-11.50). Funk also placed first in the triple jump with a distance of 36-07.75, while Gresham finished third (33-01). Senior Megan Sweeney had a season best in the high jump (5-05.75) to finish second. Junior Amy Kremer (5-03.75) finished third. Sophomore Melissa Walls came in first in the pole vault clearning 10 feet. Finally, in the shot put, freshman Johnna Zaccari (45-08) and Sophomore Sarah Allen (44-06) finished first and second. Barnes (40-11.75) and McCarty (38-10.50) came in fourth and fifth for the Flyers. Dayton will now have a week off before heading to Kingston, Rhode Island for the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships on February 16. |
