FLYERS COMPLETE MAGICAL REGULAR SEASON WITH 3-1 WIN OVER REDHAWKS

OXFORD, Ohio - #15 Dayton used a strong defensive effort to beat host Miami (Ohio), 3-1 (30-18, 25-30, 30-19, 30-26) in a possible NCAA Tournament preview on Saturday at the A-10/MAC Challenge. The A-10 Champion Flyers wrap up the 2007 regular-season with a 32-1 record following the win over the MAC Champion RedHawks. UD will take its best record ever into the NCAA Tournament this upcoming weekend. The site of the game and Dayton's opponent will be announced on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPNU. Senior libero Adrienne Green paced the Flyer defense with a season-high 30 digs. She now ranks among the Top 25 all-time in NCAA history with 2,043 career digs and 4.43 career digs per game. Redshirt junior Erin Schroeder put up a triple-double of 10 kills, 11 digs and 57 assists to go along with two service aces. Two other Flyers reached double figures in digs including junior Kortney Norris who finished with 12 digs and nine kills. She was followed by sophomore Chelsy Christoff with 10 digs of her own. Offensively, redshirt freshman Lindsay Fletemier earned Tournament MVP honors while closing out the regular season with match-highs of 18 kills and four blocks. She was joined on the All-Tournament Team by fellow Flyers Schroeder and Bethany Akerhielm. Akerhielm had 15 kills, 11 blocks including three solo and two service aces for a Dayton which had a 15.0 to 10.0 lead in blocks overall. Freshman Yvonne Marten tallied 14 kills and eight blocks to round out a UD offense that out hit MU .236 to .160 on the evening. |
