Ed Alyanak joined the Flyer family as a volunteer assistant coach for UD women's cross country in the fall of 2008. However, the family aspect is nothing new to Ed, who is the husband of head coach Ann Alyanak. Ed shares the same passion and dedication for the sport as Ann. Since 2005, he has participated in several renowned events. In Sept. 2005, Ed competed in Ironman Wisconsin and qualified for the Ironman World Championships in Hawai'i, which was held a year later. Currently, Ed takes part in many sprint and international distance triathlons. He also coaches local runners and triathletes in the area, and helps Ann train for her events. A 2002 graduate of Purdue University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Ed went on to earn his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Wright State University in 2006. He is currently employed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base as a Civilian Research Engineer. Ed and Ann currently reside in Beavercreek, Ohio. They are expecting their first child this fall. |
