River Forest, IL - Dominican University's Abbey Bullerdick (New Market, IN) was named the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Student-Athlete of the Week for softball. Bullerdick, a 5'6" freshman, went on a tear last week, posting a .722 batting average with eight runs scored and 11 RBI in 21 plate appearances. In a doubleheader loss last week to Concordia University (WI), Bullerdick went 4-for-7 at the plate with a pair of runs batted in. The freshman catcher then followed up that performance by going two-for-two with a two walks, three runs scored and four runs batted in an 11-10 victory over conference and neighborhood rival Concordia Chicago. Bullerdick doubled ahead of a Haley Johnson (Indianapolis, IN) homer to give the Stars a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. In her next trip to the plate, Bullerdick put the Stars back on top with a grand slam in the second inning, giving the Stars a 6-3 advantage in the top of the second. Bullerdick drew walks in her final two plate appearances, including an intentional walk in the top of the sixth and would later score the Stars' tenth run of the ballgame. In game two against Concordia Chicago, Bullerdick helped the Stars to a 5-2 win as she went 1-for-3 at the plate with a first inning single. Bullerdick then went a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate in a pair of wins over Mt. Mary College in non-conference action on Sunday. Bullerdick accounted for ten runs on the day with five runs scored and five RBI in seven trips to the plate, including a walk, a double and a triple. Bullerdick entered the week ranked fourth on the team with a .333 batting average. She raised her batting average nearly 170 points, jumping into the team's lead with a .500 batting average on the season with a team-best .690 slugging percentage and ranks second on the team with 13 RBI. |
