Lacrosse Falls to #1 Northwestern 21-6

March 7, 2008

Box Score

EVANSTON, ILL. - Coming off their first win of the season on Wednesday, the Duquesne lacrosse team had its toughest challenge of the young season as they visited three time defending national champion and the current #1 ranked team in the nation, Northwestern Friday afternoon.

The Wildcats, who were christening brand new Lakeside Field, improved to 4-0 on the season and extended their winning streak to 25 games after their 21-6 victory over the Dukes.

NU got on the board just 12 seconds into the contest on a goal by Danielle Spencer. The Wildcats would score five more times before Liz Fey got Duquesne on the board with her fifth goal of the season.

Kat McNish would find the back of the net later in the first half, but it was Northwestern who would score 10 of the next 11 goals to take a 16-2 lead into halftime.

The Dukes would get a pair of Sarah Cates goals in the second half and unassisted goals from Ashley Wood and another from Fey. The six total goals are the second most Northwestern has allowed this season.

Duquesne had their home opener Sunday afternoon against Davidson. Faceoff is at noon at Cupples Stadium on the South Side.
