Results

PHILADELPHIA - The Duquesne rowing team opened their 2008 spring season in Philadelphia for the Murphy Cup. The race was highlighted by a first place finish by the lightweight 8+ and a third place finish from the lightweight varsity 4+.

The crew of Andrea Komanecky, Halyna Tarnawskyj, Joanna Rodriguez, Jenna Vanaskie, Kristina Powell, Mary Deet, Katie Hodnik, Lauren Thorpe and Elizabeth Mills rowed the lightweight 8+ boat to a first place finish, crossing in 7:02.09, over nine seconds ahead of Lehigh.

Jenna Vanaskie, Kristina Powell, Mary Deet, Katie Hodnik and Laura Cherchuck guided the lightweight varsity 4+ boat to a third place finish with a time of 7:41.71, just 12.86 behind defending lightweight national champion Bucknell.

The women's varsity 8+ of Chelsea Breitenbach, Jacqueline Moore, Sara Shippen, Stacey Null, Eva Routs, Katelyn Malongowski, Margatet Brophy, Sara Colley and Kristen Budic finished in 7:03.55 just one second away from making the petite final.

The novice 8+ has a time of 7:55.66 which was almost 25 second better than the crew from the University of Pittsburgh who defeated the Dukes in the last race of the 2007 fall season.

The rowers will travel to Dayton, Ohio this weekend for a scrimmage against the Flyers and West Virginia.
