ECU Sports Moving To New Radio Home
Jan. 24, 2008
GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina football and men's basketball broadcasts will be moving to a new radio flagship beginning next fall as WNCT-FM (107.9) becomes the Pirates' new primary home for the next three years according to an announcement made Thursday by ECU Director of Athletics Terry Holland, ISP Sports Vice-President Meghan Molnar and Brad Hood of the Beasley Broadcast Group. WNCT-FM's powerful 100,000-watt signal will provide expanded coverage for ECU sports, extending to Raleigh (to the west), southern Virginia (to the north) and up and down the North Carolina coastline. "East Carolina University's partnership with the Beasley Broadcast Group continues to pay dividends for our athletic program and the Pirate Nation," Holland said. "The new placement on WNCT-FM 107.9 provides tremendous coverage for our football program and is a major step up for our basketball program. In addition, the continuing coverage on WNCT-AM 1070 will maintain our baseball program's national distinction of having its complete schedule broadcast on a 50,000-watt station. We are very appreciative of the Beasley Group's commitment to eastern North Carolina and to East Carolina University." All ECU football and men's basketball games, along with weekly coaches' call-in shows, will be included in the programming on WNCT-FM. "We are delighted to be able to provide this level of radio coverage of Pirate Football and Basketball to our loyal fan base," Molnar added. "Having both sports available on the same radio location will also prove to be a major positive for Pirate fans." ECU football action was carried this past fall on Beasley-owned WSFL-FM (106.5), while basketball is being aired on WNCT-AM (1070), a strong 50,000-watt station which will continue to provide coverage of the Pirates' complete 56-game regular season baseball slate and any post-season competition. |
