East Carolina Blanks Presbyterian, 7-0

CLINTON, S.C. - The East Carolina women's tennis squad swept six singles matches, three in straight sets, and earned the doubles point to post a convincing 7-0 non-conference victory over Presbyterian Wednesday afternoon at the Callaway Courts. The win, which also served as the Lady Pirates' second-straight shutout and seventh of the season, improved ECU's overall spring dual match record to 15-5. The Blue Hose suffered their seventh consecutive loss, dropping their season mark to 4-13. The Lady Pirates opened the match by capturing the doubles point. Tandems Jessica Cook and Brooke Walter (8-0), along with Tamara Sachs and Varinia Soler (8-2), each rolled to impressive wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to clinch the first tally before Luiza Borges and Mireia Gol closed out the action with an 8-3 decision against Abby Diminich and Brittany Lanford. East Carolina continued its strong play in singles action, notching straight-set triumphs in three of the first four flights. Cook (6-3, 6-1 at No. 1), Gol (6-2, 6-5 at No. 2) and Borges (6-1, 6-1 at No. 4) all cruised to victories while Walter (6-0, 4-6, 6-0) and Kristin Gordon (1-6, 7-5, 1-0) both rallied back for wins at the No. 3 and No. 6 slots, respectively. The Lady Pirates will close out their brief two-match road swing Thursday when they will visit Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m.
