WENHAM, Mass. - Freshman right fielder Luis Uribe (Boston, Mass.) went deep in both games of the Gulls' double-header with North Shore rival Gordon College, as Endicott swept a pair of TCCC games on Wednesday afternoon against the Fighting Scots.
Gordon College freshman shortstop Stephen Myhren (Vernon, N.J.) extended his hitting streak to a school-record 16 games but the Fighting Scots couldn't hold off the Gulls, dropping the pair of decisions, 9-2 and 8-7.
The Fighting Scots (11-18, 8-12) took a 2-1 lead in game one as Christopher Mills (Winchester, Mass.) doubled and scored on an RBI groundout from Jon Waldie (Methuen, Mass.) in the bottom of the third. The Gulls (18-15, 12-8) would get that run back and take a 3-2 lead on Luis Uribe's two run shot to left in the top of the sixth. The visitors would pile on six runs in the top of the seventh with the help of four hits and three errors en route to the 9-2 opening victory.
GC starter Nate Lloyd (Wall, N.J.) went six strong innings allowing just three runs while striking out one in the loss. Endicott's Colin McGinn (Tolland, Conn.) went the distance, striking out five while scattering seven hits in the victory.
In the nightcap, the Gulls put up one in the first and blew the game open with a six-run third as Uribe hit his second two-run dinger of the afternoon as the Gulls sent 10 men to the plate and took a 7-0 lead. The Scots, however, would not go quietly as they sent nine men to the plate in a five-run third. The Scots stole seven bases in the inning and took advantage of five Gulls errors and junior Aaron Whittet (Rye, N.H.) had the only RBI of the inning on a single to center.
GC would knot the game at 7-7 in the bottom of the sixth as the Scots ran their way around the bases and Myhren singled and scored on a sac fly from Mills. The Gulls would get the run back in the top of the seventh when Andrew Betts (Bristol, Conn.) singled in the winning run for the 8-7 win. For the game, the teams combined for 15 stolen bases and 11 errors.
Nick Kelley (Malden, Mass.) earned the win for the Gulls, pitching 4 and 1/3 innings of relief allowing just one hit and striking out six. GC freshman Ken Westra (Glenwood, N.J.) was saddled with the loss in four innings of relief.
The Fighting Scots will conclude their regular season on Saturday with a double-header at Curry College at noon.
