BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott College women's lacrosse team outscored TCCC opponent Roger Williams University, 8-1, in the first half and never looked back, handing the Hawks their first conference loss, 17-7, at Endicott Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. Endicott is now 7-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
Kellie Cunningham (Derry, N.H.) and Valerie Feldman (Albany, N.Y.) each had five goals on the afternoon for the Gulls, while Molly Hamel (North Yarmouth, Maine) was spectacular in net, making 16 saves in the win.
After taking a, 1-0, lead on a goal by Libby Stout (Concord, Mass.), the Hawks never regained control of the game as Endicott scored the next eight unanswered in the first half and to take an, 8-1, lead going into the break.
Cunningham had a hand in each of the first five goals for the Gulls - notching four goals and an assist - tallying a hat trick less than six minutes into the game.
Roger Williams would try to put something together at the beginning of the second half with two quick goals from Kara Smolca (Gaithersburg, Md.). An answer from Endicott's Kelsey Lawler (Hurst, Texas) would be met with back-to-back scores from the Hawks' Kary Rodgers (Brookfield, Conn.), as the Gulls saw their lead shrink to, 9-5.
But the Blue and Green wouldn't sit on their heels for long as they got two goals apiece from Feldman and Sara Gunter (Kennebunk, Maine) spurring a, 6-1, run to open up the for good.
Feldman led the Gulls with eight points as she scored five goals and dished out three assists. Cunningham, Lauren Glavin (Billerica, Mass.), and Emily Judd (Peabody, Mass.) all had two assists. Cunningham notched seven total points. Gunter earned a hat trick with three goals on the afternoon.
