BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott College women's lacrosse team was beaten 17-7 by the 20th ranked Tufts University Jumbos on Thursday at Endicott Stadium in Beverly, Mass.
The Gulls came out strong early in the first half, receiving two goals from sophomore Valerie Feldman (Albany, N.Y.) to help build a 4-2 lead.
Tufts would battle back, tying the score at 5-all on a goal from junior Chrissie Attura (Yarmouth, Maine) on a free position shot. The Jumbos took control from that point on, scoring four more goals, including three straight by sophomore Emily Johnson (Yarmouth, Maine), to go into halftime with a 9-5 lead.
Tufts continued to roll in the second half, scoring the period's first four goals to extend their lead to 13-5.
Freshman Kellie Cunningham (Derry, N.H.) gave the Gulls some hope by finding the back of the net for two straight goals, cutting the Jumbo lead to 13-7.
Tufts responded well, shutting out Endicott for the games final 15 minutes, while tacking on four more goals. The Jumbos went on to win by the final score of 17-7.
Tufts was led by senior Sarah Williams (Bethesda, Md.) who had a game-high ten points. She had four goals and six assists, leading all scorers in both categories. Emily Johnson also had a solid game, collecting five points on three goals and two assists.
Sophomore Valerie Feldman led the Gulls with four points on three goals and one assist. Freshman Kellie Cunningham chipped in two goals, while junior Alex Pearce (Underhill, Vt.) added a goal and an assist in the loss.
The win improves the Jumbos to 6-3 overall, while remaining 2-3 in the NESCAC. Endicott now drops to 7-4 overall, staying put at a perfect 4-0 in the TCCC. The Gulls will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Biddeford, Maine to take on the University of New England in a TCCC match up. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
