Schlachterman Named SBC Most Outstanding Diver

Final Stats

Adding to her win in the 3-meter diving event, Samantha Schlachterman picked up a third-place finish on the 1-meter board on Saturday at the Sun Belt Conference Swimming & Diving Championships. For her efforts Schlachterman was named SBC Female Diver of the Year. She helped guide the Florida Atlantic University women's team to a second-place finish at the championships and saw the men's team place eighth.

Schlachterman (Cherry Hill, NJ) earned 236.75 on the 1-meter board to finish in third behind FAU teammate Lisa Thompson in second with a score of 240.40.

Lauren Shue picked up her second individual win of the meet in the first event on Saturday. The senior swam a 16:35.90 in the 1650 free to win the event by 20 seconds. Her time was also an NCAA `B' cut time. Four other FAU swimmers finished in the top-10 in the event. Jenny Harms took third (16:55.84), Brittany Fabry sixth (17:00.32), Yasmin Siggins seven (17:05.88) and Danielle Kuykendall tenth (17:11.76).

In the 100-yard freestyle, Bianca Murphy defended her SBC title. She swam her fastest time of the season at 50.98 in the finals to pick up 20 points for the Owls.

In the 200-yard backstroke Lindsey Alexander took third (2:02.19) and Stase Michota took seventh (2:07.55).
 

 

Two FAU swimmers also advanced to the A final of the 200 fly. Shawna Griffith and Jennifer Forcht finished third (2:03.91) and sixth (2:07.62), respectively.

On the men's side, Michael Shimansky earned an eighth-place finish in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 15:54.55.
