Postponed Game Easily Won by Florida Atlantic 13-6

March 23, 2008

Box Score

BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic cruised to a 13-6 victory over Middle Tennessee State Sunday morning in a game that had initially began Saturday but was postponed due to rain. FAU inherited an 11-0 lead in the third inning when play resumed at 9:30 this morning.

All nine FAU starters posted a hit and eight scored a run in what turned out to be a one-sided affair that spanned two-days.

Six straight Owls reached base off MTST starting pitcher Kenneth Roberts (2-2) in the bottom of the second inning. RBI base hits in the frame by David Wilson and Troy Bubley gave Florida Atlantic (15-6; 5-1 SBC) an early 3-0 lead.

FAU starter Jeff Beliveau was cruising, striking out four of the first six batters he faced and had fanned six in three complete innings before rain halted play.

Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg's second homerun in as many games came in the third inning, taking a 3-1 pitch from Roberts over the right field fence, scoring Mike McKenna and Tom Hatcher to push the FAU lead to six, 6-0.

MTST (10-6-1; 3-4 SBC) continued to surrender third-inning runs, with the Owls scoring five more times off both Roberts and Langdon Stanley. Stanley was still pitching in the third with two outs and a runner on second base when the rain set in for good.

Michael Obradovich (1-1) threw three innings for FAU when play began again Sunday morning. Alex Pepe and Chris Schmitt were also used in relief.
