Men's Hoops Tames Tigers 94-68
Feb. 2, 2008
BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team was able to hold off a pesky Savannah State squad on Saturday night. Both coaching staffs wore sneakers on the sidelines as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Weekend fundraiser. The Owls (9-14, 5-7) got out to a fast start and seized an early 21-6 lead. FAU held a comfortable lead for most of the first half. Late in the half, SSU mounted a 7-2 rally to cut the lead down to six, 38-32, late in the first half. A late push by FAU pushed the lead back out to 10 at the half. The score was 48-36 early in the second half when the Tigers scored 10 straight points to pull within two, 50-48 at the 16:11 mark of the second half. FAU scored eight of the next nine points to take a 59-49 lead with 11:38 left in the game. The Owls were up 67-59 at the 7:43 mark when they put the game away with a 16-4 run to take a 20 point lead at the final media timeout. "It wasn't our best game, but anytime you force 31 turnovers, you're doing something right," said head coach Rex Walters.
FAU travels to ULM on Wednesday to take on the Warhawks. The game is scheduled for a 8:30 eastern start and will be part of a doubleheader that will be preceded by a women's game between the two schools. Live audio will be available via WMEN-640AM and fausports.com.
