Baggott's First Career Goal Lifts Owls Over Aztecs

Sept. 2, 2007

Box Score

SAN DIEGO, CA - Gillian Baggott scored her first career goal in her second career game as the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season, 1-0, against San Diego State on Sunday.

The Owls and Aztecs closed out SDSU's Invitational to open 2007 with a hard-fought contest. FAU carried a majority of the offensive play, out-shooting SDSU 14-4 and allowing just one shot on goal.

In the fourth minute, Baggott scored her first collegiate goal on a header following a free kick by Susanna Lehtinen, who was credited with the lone assist, her third point of the year. Lehtinen and Monique Cabrera led the Owls with three shots apiece, each putting two on net.

Allyssa Eramo, Natalie D'Oria and Michele Fazzari added one shot on goal each as well.

FAU goalkeeper Jessica Badders faced four shots but was asked to make just one stop in the contest and earned her first shutout of the 2007 season. It is her first career solo shutout after sharing 18 over her first two seasons.

With the win, FAU evens its record at 1-1-0. The team returns home to host the FAU Classic next weekend, which includes UNC-Greensboro, Northwestern and Ball State.
