BOCA RATON, FL - Members of the Florida Atlantic University softball and volleyball teams recently volunteered to help the needs of others in the local community.

The softball team, after returning from a six-day road trip to Louisiana, helped members of an after-school program at the Boynton Beach YMCA by tutoring children with their schoolwork, and speaking about the importance of exercise and good sportsmanship. The team also participated in several games with the children, who ranged in age from 6 to 10, and signed autographs.

The FAU volleyball team also took part in an event at Boca Helping Hands, a nonprofit organization that offers meals to the underprivileged in South Florida. The team helped prepare and serve meals delivered to homebound individuals, who were disabled or elderly.

Several members of the volleyball team also volunteered at the Karen Slattery Educational Research Center, located on FAU's Boca Raton campus, to share the benefits of physical fitness.
