Final Stats

FRESNO, Calif. - Four Bulldogs took the field Wednesday in the first day of the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Boise, Idaho. Junior Erica Embry represented the women's team while senior Roy Phelps and freshmen David Deal, and Matt Bushnell competed for the men.

Embry had a strong showing in the first four events of the heptathlon. Competing in the 100-meter hurdlers, high jump, shot put, and 200-meter dash. She took second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.45 and then tenth in the shot put, high jump, and 100-meter hurdles.

The men have competed in five events: the high jump, long jump, shot put, 400-meter dash, and the 100-meter dash. Fresno State's Roy Phelps jumped 7.08 meters earning him second place. Phelps placed third in the high jump with a jump of 1.80m. Teammates David Deal and Matt Bushnell tied for fourth with jumps of 1.77 meters.

The Bulldog men also had a strong showing in the 100-meter dash. Bushnell finished second with a time of 11.14 seconds. While Phelps finished third with a time of 11.32 and with a time of 11.45, Deal placed fifth.

Bushnell ended the day with a first place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.57. Fellow Bulldog freshman David Deal was right behind placing third with a time of 51.02.

Overall in competition Embry is in tenth place. On the men's side Bushnell is in second place, Deal in third, and Phelps rounding out Fresno competitors in fifth place.

The multi-events wrap up Thursday, while individual and team event competition begins Friday.
