FRESNO, Calif. - For Lisa Wells, the 2008 Varsity Equestrian National Championship in Waco, Texas was the pinnacle of an outstanding season.
During the course of the year, Wells earned the No. 3 seed for the national individual championship in Equitation over Fences. She was a key contributor for the Dogs, who were the nations' No. 8-ranked English squad. The Dogs beat No. 9 New Mexico State in the first round of the VENC championships, before losing to No. 1 Oklahoma State and No. 4 South Carolina on Friday.
Wells first round opponent, No. 2 Kristen Terebisi beat Wells by five points, 137-132, and then would go on to win both the Fences and Flat individual naitonal championships in one of the most memorable performances in the recent VENC history.
"Lisa had a great weekend at the national championships," said head coach Becky Malmo. "It was a great culmination of a great season for her and it took a national champion to beat her, so there's no shame in that."
Well and the Bulldogs have concluded their 2007-08 seasons.
