Baseball Opens With Road Win

March 2, 2008

LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall's baseball team opened the season with a 9-1 win over Villa Julie at the Bachman Sports Complex Sunday afternoon. Dan Tischler worked a complete game for F&M, surrendering one unearned run on five hits. He struck out five.

The Diplomats (1-0) got all of the offense they would need in the third when Bill Murray's walk became the game's first run. Matt Donahue bumped Murray over to second on a sacrifice hit, and Tom Miller's single plated the F&M third baseman. Miller went to second on an error by the centerfielder on the play, and made his way over to third on a passed ball. Shea Moriarty knocked in what stood up as the game winning run with two outs on the board in the third.

F&M blew the game open with three runs on four hits in the fourth and coasted to the season opening win from there.

Murray went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Jason Anderson Gordon Pellegrini, and Donahue each had multiple hit games with Anderson and Pellegrini crossing the plate twice. Anderson also drove in a run.

Villa Julie fell to 3-4-1 with the loss. F&M returns to action on Tuesday at Albright.
