NEWARK, Del. - Shannon Weir and Megan Hunter set new school records in the 1000m and 800m, respectively, to lead the Franklin & Marshall women's indoor track & field team to a fourth-place finish out of 10 teams at the Thomson Invitational at the University of Delaware on Saturday.

Weir ran 3:10.68 for second place in the 1000m and breaking the old school record of 3:11.07 set by Tara Cooney in 2004. Hunter also erased a record held by Cooney, but in the 800m with a new time of 2:24.62 to replace the old mark of 2:26.06.

The Diplomat women tallied 58 points on the afternoon, while the men picked up 20 for eighth place out of 10 squads. Ryan Bell earned six points for F&M with third place in the 1000m (2:41.50) and Charlie Bowen was three spots behind for sixth overall with a time of 2:45.53, good for three more team points.

Once again, Alyssa Catalano dominated the field events with first place in the shot put (38-04.00) and second in the weight throw (43-11.75). Erin Gleason made a toss of 36-00.00 for fourth in the shot put.

Rachel Suydam ran 11:20.99 in the 3000m for second place, while Nicole DiBenedetto took fifth in the 1000m with a time of 3:25.40 and Laura Hansen earned eighth in the 60m hurdles (11.29).

F&M collected its last points in the 4x400m relay, thanks to a fifth-place finish by Weir, Hansen, Hunter and DiBenedetto (4:30.89).

For the men, Mike Arnold finished in the top 10 in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.35 for sixth overall.

In the 500m, Jared Pickell and Jake Gomolinski went seventh and eighth, respectively, clocking in less than a second from each other. Pickell crossed the line in 1:12.90 and Gomolinski finished in 1:13.28.

Arnold and Bowen joined Pavel Marossine and Josh Laster for a sixth-place finish in the 4x400m race with a time of 3:43.92.

The Diplomats return to action on Friday at Susquehanna. Meet time is 4 p.m.
