Season Comes To An End For No. 14 Florida State Men's Tennis With 4-0 Loss To No. 3 UCLA
May 17, 2008
"UCLA is a great team, they are very talented," FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "I thought we competed very well, but they showed why they are one of the favorites to win it all." "I thought that the doubles was the key to the match," Hultquist said. "We had the momentum in the doubles but then they came back." In singles, again the Seminoles started quickly, but UCLA quickly countered to win five out of six first sets. The Bruins got their second point on court four when Look beat Sykut 6-3, 6-2. UCLA's second singles victory came on court three as the 40th-ranked Dehaine degeated the 92nd-ranked Chang in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. The Bruins clinched the match on court six when Meister defeated Mixson 6-4, 6-3. "We were up early in singles, but then they came back and won five first sets," Hultquist said. "That was the key to the match, the momentum swings that they were able to turn at crucial times." With the team season done, FSU will now turn its attention to the individual championships that begin Wednesday, May 21. Aubone will compete in both the singles and doubles while Bowles will be his partner in doubles. www.seminoles.com |
