Seminoles season ends in the round of 16 after coming up short against the Bruins.

Tulsa, Okla. -  The 14^th-ranked Florida State men's tennis team lost its round of 16 match at the 2008 NCAA Championships to No. 3 UCLA 4-0 Friday, May 16 in Tulsa Okla.  The loss ended the Seminoles (21-7, 10-3) season.

"UCLA is a great team, they are very talented," FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said.  "I thought we competed very well, but they showed why they are one of the favorites to win it all."

Florida State started the match quickly in doubles by jumping out to big leads on courts one and three.  Junior Drew Bailey and sophomore Brad Mixson held their lead on court three defeating the Bruins Jeremy Drean and Michael Look 8-5.  UCLA tied the doubles at one with Mathieu Dehaine and Holden Seguso's 8-4 victory over senior Sam Chang and junior Maciek Sykut.  On court one, the 15^th-ranked duo of sophomore Jean-Yves Aubone and freshman Clint Bowles went up 7-2 on UCLA's 52^nd-ranked pair of Nick Meister and Harel Srugo.  However, the Bruins stunned FSU by rallying to win the final seven games of the set to win the doubles point with a 9-7 win.

"I thought that the doubles was the key to the match," Hultquist said.  "We had the momentum in the doubles but then they came back."

In singles, again the Seminoles started quickly, but UCLA quickly countered to win five out of six first sets.  The Bruins got their second point on court four when Look beat Sykut 6-3, 6-2.  UCLA's second singles victory came on court three as the 40^th-ranked Dehaine degeated the 92^nd-ranked Chang in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.  The Bruins clinched the match on court six when Meister defeated Mixson 6-4, 6-3.

"We were up early in singles, but then they came back and won five first sets," Hultquist said.  "That was the key to the match, the momentum swings that they were able to turn at crucial times."

With the team season done, FSU will now turn its attention to the individual championships that begin Wednesday, May 21.  Aubone will compete in both the singles and doubles while Bowles will be his partner in doubles.
