Furman's Joey Rodgers Named SoCon Player-of-the-Week

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman outfielder Joey Rodgers has been named Southern Conference Player-of-the-Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Rodgers, a senior center fielder, keyed Furman to a 4-1 record last week, including a three-game sweep over the College of Charleston, by batting .500 (8-for-16) with three home runs and 15 RBI. In addition he scored seven runs, stole three bases, and tallied 18 total bases for a slugging percentage of 1.125.

In Friday night's series opener against the College of Charleston, he belted a pair of three-run home runs and added a school record tying seventh RBI on a sacrifice fly to propel Furman to an 11-9 win over the Cougars. In Sunday's series finale, he delivered a key two-run double in a 9-5 Paladin triumph.

The Cincinnati, Ohio, native is batting .337 on the season with a team leading seven home runs and 22 RBI. He also leads Furman in stolen bases with 14 steals in 16 attempts.

Winners of eight of its last 10 games, Furman sports a 20-13 overall record and is currently tied for fifth in conference play with a 6-6 record.

The Paladins entertain UNC-Asheville this Wednesday in a 7:00 p.m. game.
