GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's Jay Jackson has been named to the Brooks Wallace Player-of-the-Year and Roger Clemens Pitcher-of-the-Year Watch Lists, it has been announced.
Jackson, a junior right-hander from Taylors, S.C., currently leads all Southern Conference pitchers with a 9-1 record and 2.59 earned run average. His strong work on the mound has helped propel Furman, now 29-15 on the season, into first place in the league standings with a 15-6 conference mark. In 76 1/3 innings of work this spring, the former Christ Church Episcopal School standout has surrendered just 57 hits while recording 76 strikeouts. Opponents are batting just .210 against the two-time SoCon Pitcher-of-the-Week honoree.
When not pitching, Jackson has earned 34 starts in the outfield and is batting .319 with a team leading eight home runs and 29 RBI. In three seasons he has tallied 23 home runs and 103 RBI.
Jackson has been invited to play with the Hyannis Mets of the Cape Cod League this summer.
The winner of the 2008 Wallace Award will be announced July 2, and this year's Clemens Award recipient will be announced July 11.
