Davidson Tops Furman 74-59

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Junior Mercedes Robinson recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds to lift Davidson to a 74-59 win over Furman Tuesday night in SoCon basketball action.

Davidson jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, but Furman answered with a 16-2 run to take a 16-8 lead at the 12 minute mark. Davidson stepped up to tie the score at 16 and keep the lead for the remainder of the first half, leading by as many as 13 and holding a 37-27 advantage going into the break.

Trailing by 10 at the beginning of the second half, the Lady Paladins made a strong push to bring the score within three points.

Davidson was led by junior Robinson's 16 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman Ashley Lax added 11 points and senior Danielle Hemerka contributed 10.

Junior Sarah Baker led the Lady Paladins with 14 total points and five rebounds. Sophomore Kali Holtfreter recorded 12 total points, and senior Chrissy Phelps added 11.

With the loss, the Lady Paladins fall to 6-15 on the season and 1-9 in the Southern Conference. Davidson improves to 13-7 overall and 7-2 in league play. The Lady Paladins will return home Saturday to face cross-town rival Wofford in a 3 p.m. matchup in Timmons Arena.
