Senior Chrissy Phelps scored 16 total points, pushing her career total to over 1000 to lead the Lady Paladins to a 63-55 victory over the College of Charleston on "Think Pink" day.
Despite an early 5-0 lead, the Lady Cougars were unable to keep up with the Lady Paladins, with Furman holding a steady lead for the majority of the first half, led by Kali Holtfreter's nine points before the break.
The Lady Paladins continued to push in the second half, extending their lead to 11 points in the first five minutes. A strong run by the College of Charleston narrowed the lead to two points at the nine-minute mark, but Furman used aggressive defense and solid shooting to take the game with a final score of 63-55.
The Lady Cougars were led by freshman Tonia Gerty's 17 total points and junior Sarah Moye's 11 rebounds.
Senior Phelps led the Lady Paladins with 16 total points and four assists, while sophomore Kali Holtfreter added 12 points and led the team with 7 rebounds.
With the win, the Lady Paladins improve to 8-15 on the season and 3-9 in the Southern Conference, while the College of Charleston fall to 11-11 overall and 7-5 in league play. Furman will take the court again Monday in a 7:00 matchup against Georgia Southern in Timmons Arena.
