Furman Defeats UNC Greensboro in Final Regular Season Contest

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Sophomore Lee Stephens led three Furman players in double-digit scoring as the women's basketball team topped Elon 59-55 in its last regular season game.

In a first half that featured four ties and six lead changes, neither team led by more than three points until Furman pulled away to take a six-point lead at the 3:20 mark. The Paladins kept the lead going into the break, leading the Spartants 30-25.

UNC Greensboro surged ahead after the break, leading for most of the second half until the Paladins tied the score at 47 at the 4:41 mark. From there, the game saw four more tied scores, until the Paladins took the four-point victory, helped by a good jumper and two good free throws from freshman Kendra Berry.

The Spartans were led by senior Jasmine Dixon's 11 points, while Monique Floyd added 10 points, and Brittany Frazier recorded seven rebounds.

Stephens led the Paladins with 14 total points, while junior Sarah Baker recorded 11 and Berry added a career-high 10 points to the winning effort. Junior Katie Johnson led the team with seven rebounds. As a team, the Paladins shot 42% on 8-19 shooting beyond the arc.

With the win, the Paladins improve to 10-19 on the season and 5-13 in the Southern Conference, while the Spartans fall to 6-23 and 4-14 in league play. Furman earns the seventh seed heading into the Southern Conference tournament, and will face tenth-seeded Wofford at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6 in Charleston, S.C.
