Paladins Climb To Second Place Finish At Canes & Cardinal Classic

Miami Lakes, Fla. -- The Furman women's golf team carded rounds of 289 and 292 on Tuesday to finish second at the Canes & Cardinal Classic at the 6,210-yard Don Shula Golf Club in Miami Lakes, Fla.

Furman (303-289-292=884) resumed second round play on Tuesday morning, suspended late Monday by rain and lightning, and posted a one-over-par 289 to climb into the top five. The Paladins, ranked 35th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, followed with a four-over 292 in the afternoon to finish in a tie with 36th-ranked Georgia State for second place at 20-over-par for the tournament.

No. 27 Louisville (284-297-290=871) captured first place and the Cardinals' Cindy LaCrosse (67-74-71=212) took individual medalist honors at four-under-par.

Furman's Blair Lamb (72-74-71=217) grabbed a share of fifth place with a 54-hole score of one-over-par. Lamb posted a two-over 74 Tuesday morning before shooting a one-under 71 in the afternoon's final round. Paladin freshmen Jaclyn Hilea (79-70-73=222) and Stefanie Kenoyer (74-73-75=222) finished in a tie for 16th at six-over-par. Hilea, a native of Kaneohe, Hawai'i, posted a two-under 70 in round two before finishing the tournament with a final round 73. Corrine Carr (79-72-73=224) played the final two rounds at one-over to take a share of 23rd place.

The Paladins finished ahead of both 25th-ranked Notre Dame and 33rd-ranked Tulsa in the 15-team event.

Furman returns to action April 20-22, at the Southern Conference Championships in Charleston, S.C.
