Evansville's Jennifer McKee tossed a one-hitter and Krista Price hammered a three-run homer to guide the Purple Aces to a 4-0 shutout of Furman in game two of the Auburn Tiger Softball Invitational Friday at Jane B. Moore Field.
Shortstop Amanda Ockomon opened the scoring with a leadoff homer to left field to start the game off of Furman hurler Bethany Ullrich. The freshman settled down to toss three scoreless innings before Evansville put together a two-out rally in the top of the fifth inning. Kristen Shirk doubled and Brittany Herald singled with two outs to give the Purple Aces a pair of base runners and Price followed with a three-run shot to left to up the lead to 4-0.
McKee (1-0) did not issue and fanned six batters while allowing just a sixth-inning infield single to the Paladin offense. Ullrich, who got the lone hit for Furman, dropped to 0-1 allowing four runs on eight hits in five innings of work.
Herald and Price each collected two hits as Evansville moved to 2-2 on the season. The loss dropped the Lady Paladins to 1-3.
Furman continues tournament play on Saturday when it faces Marshall at 1:30 p.m. and McNeese State at 7 p.m.
