GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Furman Lady Paladins fell to 1-1 on the season with a narrow 4-3 loss to #60 Virginia Tech Saturday evening.

Virginia Tech won two of the three doubles matches for the first point of the day, then split the six singles contests for the victory.

Earning wins for the Lady Paladins were junior Laura Gioia, sophomore Jessica Preeg, and senior Lauren Tomory. Gioia defeated Yasmin Hamza by a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 margin in number one singles. Preeg topped Jessica Brouwer in a close 7-5, 7-6 (5) match in the number four spot, and Tomory won over Holly Johnson 6-2, 6-0.

With the loss, the Lady Paladins fell to 1-1 on the season, and will continue play Tuesday with a match against in-state rival Clemson. The match will be played at Furman with a 3:00 p.m. start time.
