SAN DIEGO, Calif. -
The Furman women's tennis team improved to 5-3 on the season with a 5-2 win over San Diego on Wednesday.
Furman won the doubles point with wins at the number one and number three spots. The team of Laura Gioia and Natasa Manojlovic defeated Monica Wiesener and Milou Teeling by a score of 8-1, while the Paladin tandem of Lauren Tomory and Jessica Preeg topped Carla Tamborini and Justine Perl 8-2.
In singles play, the Paladins earned wins in the top four spots, while suffering a close loss in the number six spot. Laura Gioia defeated Helene Lindstrand in straight sets (6-0, 6-2), freshman Monica Arguello topped Wiesener 6-3, 6-1, Lauren Osborne won over Teeling 6-0, 6-1, and Jessica Preeg earned a tough victory over Tamborini by scores of 2-6, 7-5, 10-7.
With the win, the Paladins improve to 5-3 on the season, while San Diego falls to 2-6. Furman takes the court again on Friday against Pepperdine.
