NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Furman women's tennis team earned a 5-2 win over #69 Cal State Northridge on Saturday, ending the Matadors' five-game winning streak and handing them their first loss of the season.

The Paladins earned the first point of the match with victories at the number one and three doubles spots. The duo of Laura Gioia and Natasa Manojlovic topped Victoria Brymer and Canna Furuta 8-4 at the top spot, while the Paladin tandem of Lauren Tomory and Jessica Preeg defeated Nina Jaworowski and Sandra Kukla 8-6 at the number three spot.

In singles play, Furman earned wins in the top three spots, and Preeg picked up the Paladins' fifth point by winning over Fournell 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in number four singles.

Furman's Gioia earned a quick 6-2, 6-0 win over Brymer in the top singles spot, while Arguello had to work a little harder to defeat Koichumanova 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 in the number two spot. Lauren Osborne defeated Furuta in the third spot 6-3, 6-3 to round out the Paladins' win.

With the win, Furman improves to 6-4 on the season, while Northridge falls to 5-1 overall. The Paladins will return to the east coast to begin Southern Conference play with a trip to Elon on Saturday, March 8.
