#71 Lady Paladins defeat Georgia Southern 6-1

The 71st-ranked Furman Paladins defeated the Georgia Southern Eagles 6-1 in women's tennis action today at the Mickel Tennis Center.

 

Furman secured the first point of the contest by winning all three doubles matches. In #1 doubles, Furman's Laura Gioia and Natasa Manojlovic defeated the Eagles Krish Kegerras and Christine Caforio 8-1. The team of Lauren Osborne and Christina Swindall won the second doubles match 8-5, while Jessica Preeg and Lauren Tomory won the third 8-4.

 

In singles play, #93rd-ranked Gioia defeated Kegerras 6-2, 6-1 at the #1 position, while #108th-ranked Monica Arguello defeated the Eagles Melanie Rolle 6-3, 6-1 in #2 singles. Also picking up singles wins for the Paladins were Osborne, 6-0, 6-0, Tomory, 6-1, 6-0 and Manojlovic, 6-0, 6-4. Georgia Southern's lone point came in #4 singles as the Eagles Molly Maddox defeated Furman's Preeg 7-5, 6-2.

 

Furman improves to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in Southern Conference play, while the Eagles drop to 7-5 overall and 1-1 in Southern Conference action.

 

The Lady Paladins next travel to Nashville, Tenn., to face the 12th- ranked Vanderbilt Commodores. The match will be Furman's final road non-conference match of the season. It is scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m.
