#67 Women's Tennis Defeats Boson University

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The 67th-ranked Furman women's tennis team earned a close 4-3 victory over non-conference foe Boston University on Sunday at the Mickel Tennis Center.

The Terriers took an early lead by winning the doubles point. At the top spot, the Paladin tandem of Laura Gioia and Natasa Manojlovic defeated Francine Whu and Vanessa Steiner by a score of 8-3. At number two doubles, the team of Cori Lefkowith and Danielle Abraham topped Lauren Osborne and Monica Arguello by a score of 8-5, while the Terrier team of Elizabeth Corrao and Yana Sadovskaya earned a win over Jessica Preeg and Christina Swindall at number three doubles.

Furman earned two quick points in singles, with freshman Monica Arguello earning a 6-1, 6-0 win over Vanessa Steiner at the number two spot and Lauren Osborne topping Yana Sadovskaya 6-2, 6-1 at number three singles. Natasa Manojlovic earned another point for the Paladins with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at the number five spot, and junior Laura Gioia sealed the win for Furman with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Francine Whu at the top singles spot.

With the win, Furman improves to 13-5 on the season and remains at 6-0 in Southern Conference play, while Boston University falls to 7-7 overall.

The Paladins will resume SoCon play on Tuesday as they host Wofford. The match will feature the competition for the Pinson Challenge Trophy, an annual competition between the two schools. Furman has won the trophy for the past three years.
