Baseball Held to Five Hits in 5-1 Loss at Towson

April 5, 2008

Box Score

Towson, Md. - The George Mason baseball team dropped its third straight CAA game and its fourth straight game overall as the Patriots fell at Towson, 5-1 on Saturday. Mason was held to just five hits in the game and fell despite some strong pitching.

Chris Henderson had two of Mason's hits while Justin Bour accounted for the lone run, hitting his team-high 12th homer of the year. His solo shot came in the top of the seventh, and at the time, cut the Towson lead to 3-1.

The Tigers scored twice in the third as they led off the inning with a pair of singles and, after Mike Modica retired the next two batters on strikeouts, a two-run double made it 2-0. In the fourth, Towson extended the lead. A pair of singles put runners on the corners and the Tigers made it 3-0 on a double steal.

After Mason closed to 3-1, Towson used a one-out walk and two singles to make it 4-1. A solo homer in the eighth accounted for the final score.

Modica allowed four runs in six and two-third innings. He walked just one while striking out 10 batters. Spencer Patton went seven strong innings for Towson to pick up the win while Josh Squatrito pitched two perfect innings to close out the game

Mason and Towson will conclude their three-game series tomorrow at Towson with game time set for 1 p.m.
