Patriot Golfers Finish 13th in First Tournament of the Spring

March 5, 2008

The Patriots cut six strokes off their first round total 313 and finished 13th overall at the Lonnie D. Small Spring Classic, Mason's first tournament of the spring season. Mason finished one stroke off CAA rival James Madison.

Coming back from a five-stroke deficit at Keith Hills Country Club No. 1, Campbell men's golf edged Elon for the team tournament title by one stroke, 583-584. The win is Campbell's fourth in a row at the tournament, and the team's eighth in the classic's 23-year history.

Mason was led by Silas Vansky who shot a four-over par 76 in both rounds to finish tied for 36th overall. Teammate Clark Bixler shot an even par 72 in round two after opening the tournament with a 81 and finished just one stroke behind Vansky. Marshall Tinsley finished 58th, J.J. Amoruso in 62nd place and Tyler Frank finished 71st place rounding out the Patriots.

The Mason golf team will travel to Puerto Rico this weekend to play in the Palmas Del Mar Collegiate.
