Mason Tops Mount St. Mary's in Men's Tennis

The George Mason men's tennis team took on The Mount today, in search of its third win of the season. With superb play from Dan Schneider and Harwood Hoskins Harwood Hoskins, Mason won 7-0.

Schneider went 2-0 on the day for the first time this season and captured his first singles win.

"It's been a while," Schneider said. "It felt nice to go 2-0. I looked around and everyone was playing hard and as a captain I had to lead by example." Schneider attributed good foot work and preparing more mentally for the match as his keys to victory.

Schneider had a great day, but had wasn't the only one as Brian Fitzgerald, Anastas Budagov, and Hoskins all went 2-0 on the day. Fitzgerald started the Patriots climb at the No. 1 singles, as he made quick work winning 6-1, 6-0. Budagov shortly followed taking his match in the same fashion 6-1, 6-0 at the No.2 singles. Hoskins dropped the first set 4-6, but fought hard to take the next set winning 6-2. Hoskins won the tiebreaker, 10-5.

Jordan Lipstock and Martin Brown played at the No.5 and No.6 singles. Both made quick work of their opponents. Lipstock employed a strong serve to win his match, 6-2, 6-1 and Brown used used strong ground strokes to take the 6-2, 6-2 win.

In doubles action, Budagov and Hoskins came out swinging taking the doubles match 8-1. Fitzgerald and Schneider also won their match, improving to 6-7 in the spring after an 8-3 win.
 

 

Mason takes on Loyola on Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Physical Education Building.
