No. 13 Men's Volleyball Downs No. 12 IPFW, 3-2

Feb. 22, 2008

Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - George Mason exacted a bit of revenge on IPFW on Friday night in the opening round of the Hall of Fame Morgan Classic hosted by Springfield College. The No. 13 Patriots avenged a 3-2 loss to No. 12 IPFW earlier this season in Fort Wayne, Ind. with a 3-2 win of their own over the Mastodons.

IPFW looked like it would roll over the Patriots, winning the first two games of the match 30-24 and 30-22, but George Mason roared back, winning the final three games 30-22, 30-28, and 15-13.

Mason's Kyle Gramit was the hitting star of the match. Gramit registered a match-high 30 kills, hitting .321. He also dug up 14 balls for a double-double. The Patriots also got 21 kills from Hudson Bates.

IPFW was led by senior outside hitter D.J. Macias with 18 kills. He was one of three Mastodons to register double-doubles in the match. Macias also had 12 digs and fired off five service aces.

George Mason will play USC in the finals of the tournament tomorrow at 8 p.m.
