Oates Named CAA Co-Wrestler of the Week

Jan. 29, 2008

FAIRFAX, Va. - Senior Randy Oates (Owings, Md./Northern) earned CAA Co-Wrestler of the Week honors for his part in George Mason's 22-15 victory over Binghamton on Sunday. With the win, the Patriots improved to 9-3 overall and 5-2 in CAA duals.

Wrestling at 174 pounds, Oates took on Binghamton sophomore Josh Patterson, ranked 19th in the nation by InterMat and 20th by Amateur Wrestling News at the time of the match. Forty-one seconds into the third and final period, Oates pinned Patterson to put the momentum back in Mason's favor. The Patriots trailed the Bearcats 12-10 heading into the match.

Oates split the award with Dave Tomasette of Hofstra. Boston University's John Hall was named the CAA Rookie of the Week. The awards take into account all competition from the week of Jan. 22-28.

The Patriots hit the mat again on Sunday, Feb. 3, taking on the Old Dominion Monarchs, the 22nd-ranked team in the nation in the latest USA Today/InterMat/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at the Fieldhouse.
