Women's Basketball To Host

Feb. 1, 2008

FAIRFAX, Va. - On Sunday, February 3, the George Mason women's basketball team will participate in the NCAA/Colonial Athletic Association's Pack the House Challenge. For its 2 p.m. home game against Virginia Commonwealth, Mason will try to break the program's single-game attendance record of 3,152.

"We're very excited to participate in the NCAA and CAA's promotion this Sunday, especially in such a great rivalry game against VCU," said head coach Debbie Taneyhill. "The excitement of a home conference game and all of the groups we are hosting will make it a great atmosphere. I am really looking forward to the crowd we'll have at the game."

In addition to the Pack the House Challenge, Mason will be hosting its annual Girl Scout Day, as well as National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Youth who attend the game can receive free rubber bracelets in honor of NGWIS Day, while the scouts will participate in a pre-game clinic along with the Mason cheerleaders, and will perform at halftime.

Additionally, Sunday's contest against the Rams is the Broadside Game of the Week, and Mason students who attend the game will receive free pizza. Following the conclusion of the game, all fans are invited to the court for autographs and free throw shooting.

The Pack the House Challenge pits NCAA member schools against schools in their own conference as well as all Division I schools for a chance to be the 2008 NCAA Women's Basketball Pack the House Challenge Champion.

The NCAA seeks to grow the sport of women's basketball by building upon its successes and preparing for the next generation of women's college basketball players and fans. The Pack the House Challenge is an opportunity to further develop national grassroots programs aimed at increasing attendance and awareness.
