Mason Rowing Opens Spring Season on Saturday

March 19, 2008

This Saturday, March 22nd, the Mason Women's Rowing Team will begin its most competitive season yet on the Occoquan Reservoir. Mason will race Bucknell University and CAA conference foe, The University of Delaware.

This first of three home stands marks the opening of an exciting spring race schedule for the Mason Patriot rowers. Dual races will have Mason facing Duke University, The University of North Carolina, Georgetown University, The University of Dayton, George Washington University, The U.S. Naval Academy, and St. Joseph's University. This will be Mason's first time racing Duke, Navy and St. Joe's in the dual format.

"We are excited to be racing such competitive teams this spring. It shows that our team is taking a big step forward this year. We are honored to be invited to the Carolina Cup and GW Invite. Our goal is to improve from week to week and get stronger as the spring progresses." comments Head Coach Geoff Dillard.

Mason has just returned from a week-long training trip in Elberton, Georgia. After a week of technique, training, and teambuilding, the team and coaches are optimistic about this team's potential for success. Coach Dillard notes, "The team really started to come together over spring break. We are figuring out our lineups and starting to make adjustments to improve each boat. We want to be competitive across the board, and that takes a full team effort."

Saturday's races will begin at 3:30pm at Sandy Run Regional Park. For directions click HERE.
