Softball Hosts Doubleheader Against Coppin State Wednesday

April 1, 2008

The George Mason softball team returns home Wednesday to open a five-game homestand with a doubleheader against Coppin State. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at George Mason Field, and admission is free.

Mason enters the contest with a 8-21 record, including a 6-5 record at home. The Patriots were swept in their midweek doubleheader last Wednesday at Virginia, and took one of three from Drexel in Philadelphia this past weekend. Sophomore Ashli Breau has been the top Mason offensive threat, as she is batting .409 with 23 RBIs and five home runs in 27 games. In the circle, sophomore Becky Anderson leads Mason with a 1.77 ERA in 19 games, with 18 starts.

Coppin State comes to Fairfax looking for its first win of the year, as the Eagles are 0-17. Mia Willis has been the most consistent weapon on offense, as she is batting .355 with three doubles and one RBI, and is tied for the team lead in stolen bases with five. Nichae Alston has pitched in every game for the Eagles, with all but one being a complete game performance.

Following the doubleheader Wednesday, the Patriots return to conference play with a three-game series against the Georgia State Panthers this weekend.
