Women's Tennis Makes it Three Wins in a Row

April 1, 2008

Fairfax, Va. The George Mason women's tennis team earned their third straight victory this afternoon, defeating Howard 5-2. The Lady Netters move to 7-9 on the season and will go for four in a row as they head up to Towson for a CAA duel on Wednesday. "This was a very good win over a very tough, experienced Lady Bison tennis team," exclaimed Coach Steve Curtis after the Mason victory.

The Lady Netters were able to take the doubles match point by winning two of the three closely battled matches. Julia Moscato and Alicia Van Zandt took the No. 1 doubles match over Aja Wright and Alyssa Works, 8-6. The other double victory for Mason came from the No. 3 spot as Alex LaCoste and Meredith Cutchin defeated Jasmine Smith and Michele Gee in a very competitive 9-7 match. Freshman Lindsay Gray and Stacey Berlinger unfortunately came up short as they fell in a close match, 8-6, in the No. 2 position.

Gray bounced back in singles though, as she defeated Wright in two sets, 6-4, 7-6(3). Moscato and Cutchin each earned their second victories of the day from the No. 4 and No. 6 spots respectively. Moscato won in convincing fashion, 6-1, 6-3, over Works. Cutchin was able to battle back after losing the first set to win in three over Laura Marin, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

The Lady Netters will look to continue their hot streak Wednesday afternoon against the Towson Tigers, in Towson. Mason will then have a day off before hosting Robert Morris on Friday and Drexel on Saturday.
