ITA Kick-Off Weekend Returns to Athens
June 8, 2017

ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia men’s tennis program will serve as one of 15 hosts for the 2018 ITA Kick-Off Weekend, marking the 11th-straight year the Bulldogs have hosted the event.

Georgia’s men’s tennis team will welcome Memphis, Arkansas and Iowa to Athens on Jan. 26-29 at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Courts. The 15 schools from around the nation that win both of their matches at these events will be invited to play in the 2018 ITA National Team Indoor Championship hosted by the University of Washington on Feb. 16-19.

The ITA Kick-Off Weekend was created in 2009 as a qualifier for the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. Sixty schools compete for the remaining 15 spots in the national tournament, with a reserved spot for the host institution. After ITA Kick-Off Weekend host sites are named, a draft is held with schools selecting which site to play at in order of year-end ITA team rankings.

Georgia has won the National Team Indoor twice (2006, '07) and has reached the finals six additional times (1982, '94, '95, '97, '98, and 2009). The tournament began in 1973, with Georgia participating every year except 2003.

On Wednesday, Georgia’s women’s tennis team learned that Pennsylvania, Furman and Michigan State will join them in Athens for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Below is a schedule of play.
