Krimm And England Pace Jackets On Day 1 Of NCAA Zone Diving Championships

AUBURN, Ala. - Sophomore Hannah Krimm is sixth while senior Stephanie England is seventh after the first day of the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships held Friday at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center on the campus of Auburn University. The one-meter springboard event was held today and will be combined with Saturday's three-meter dive and Sunday's platform event. The top 12 divers will advance to next week's NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio.

Unlike the regular season, each diver's prelims and finals scores are combined to make up the total score. Krimm scored 548.35 points on the one-meter springboard, while England was right behind her with 531.55 combined points. Each diver had six dives in prelims and six more in the finals portion of the meet.

Freshman Michele Bertolino also competed for the Yellow Jackets and scored 168.55 points in prelims.

The meet at Auburn's James E. Martin Aquatics Center is one of five Zone Diving meets around the country this week. Also hosting NCAA Zone diving meets are the University at Buffalo, Ohio State University, University of Houston and the Air Force Academy.

Competing in the Zone B Championships are Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Duke, East Carolina, Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Miami, North Carolina, North Carolina State, North Carolina - Wilmington, North Florida, Old Dominion, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Western Kentucky.

The NCAA Zone "B" championships run through Sunday at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center in Auburn, Ala. The women's three-meter event will be held tomorrow while the platform dives will take place Sunday. The top 12 women will advance to the NCAA Championships, March 20-22 in Columbus, Ohio.
